1989: Foundation of Fray Bartolomé de las Casas Human Rights Centre

presentacion-agenda-fraybaThe day of St. Joseph the Worker, March 19, 1989, was a symbolic date to designate as the day of the anniversary of the founding of the “Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas” Human Rights Centre. In fact, the internal work of planning and meetings took place over more than a year. The Diocesan Assembly of May 1988 was commissioned by Fray Gonzalo Ituarte, the work to carry out the creation of a specific space, perhaps a human rights centre, which would work in the defence and promotion of the rights of the people who were in the diocese of San Cristobal de Las Casas and who suffered some kind of violation of their rights.
