Yachay Initiative – Education for Empowerment

Registered as a non-profit organisation, the Yachay Initiative focuses on fostering youth education and empowerment as a vehicle for community development and poverty alleviation.

The initiative has projects in Ecuador, Germany, and Scotland. Pilot projects were launched in Ecuador and Germany in 2010, with educational leadership programs taken to community schools and local families supported in the development of organic vegetable gardens. In Canada and Scotland, meanwhile, the initiative has been developing a workshop series to educate young people about development issues and the process of starting their own projects.

Though this initiative shares its name and some of its goals with the City of Knowledge project in Ecuador, it appears not to be the same thing.
