The ballot taken at today’s Founding Conference decided that the name of the new party will be “Left Unity”.
The new party is dedicated to presenting a new, radical force on the UK’s left-wing, uniting people from a variety of socialist viewpoints. The movement represents the fact that, essentially, everyone who is truly on the left wants real, fundamental change to the British political system. The time for bickering is over and the necessary and just cause of fighting to create a fair, socialist society is well overdue.
Difficult tasks lie ahead for the party, like: ensuring truly democratic and participatory politics are fostered; encouraging critical, independent thinking among the country’s population; and organising a strong resistance to capitalist ‘austerity measures’. However, the foundation of the Left Unity party is a good start.
